Little Update [Mar. 24th, 2008|10:49 pm]
I managed to get tickets to The Queens of the Stone Age on Thursday before I left... I was pretty sure that holding off on the purchase until I returned to Hobart would be a bad idea, even if it meant being able to spend a bit more $$ in Melbourne. It's good to have something to look forward to coming back to instead of the return being a bit of an anti-climax.

Despite my concern that it would be really hot here since the temperature was up around 40 degrees last week the weather has actually been pretty kind. I spent Friday and Saturday night with Bel & Alice. Friday night was quiet, Saturday was spent doing a little op-shopping before hitting 1334 on Saturday night and not returning home 'till the wee small hours (around 7:30a.m.). It was such a great night, little Matt from Hobart came out and Alice's housemate Manni came too. There were so many nice people there and it was good to be able to alternate between floors and take in a bit of metal too. The feeling of a Hobart convention was enforced when Sayo turned up later on in the night.

Of course I ended up paying for the big night the following day and it took me quite a while and several cups of tea before I was able to brave the public transport and head to my Mum's for Easter Sunday.

My second attempt in two trips here to get to Luna Park was foiled once again! I was supposed to go today and planned to be there from about 5 to 11p.m. I actually believed it was going to work out this time; I entered the park at about 4:50p.m., exclaimed to my Mum that according to the sign I am tall enough to go on all the rides and was about to pay the entry and proceed to go on as many rides, as many times, as I could only to discover that because it's a public holiday they were shutting at 6 'o clock!! Unbelievable :(

Needless to say I didn't go on any rides and hope to make it back there again before I head back, however it may well end up that I just leave it until next time I come over.

The day wasn't a total loss, my Mum, sister and I had lunch then spent a while at St Kilda beach and went to have a look at the restored pier.

Well that's pretty much it for now; looking forward to a few more days of R & R before returning to work. I get back next Sunday and I've taken Monday off as well so at least I can 'ease back' into things before returning to work on Tuesday.

Yay - Queens of the Stone Age are coming to play in HOBART!

They're on at the Hobart City Hall on the 4th of April.

Anyone else keen? C'mon you know you want to, how rare is it to have a decent band down here.

La,la,la and stuff :D

Four sleeps to holidays and Melbourne.

Life is good.

The End of Holidays [Jan. 2nd, 2008|10:47 pm]
[mood |tiredtired]

Yes the end of holidays was officially upon me today.

Given that I have not set an alarm clock over the last two weeks and have enjoyed many glorious sleep-ins to 9a.m. and beyond I was amazed that I only hit the snooze button once this morning; on any given day for me that's impressive!

It actually wasn't a bad day at all and while just one more day would have been nice to ensure complete recovery from NYE, it was pretty good to get back into the swing of things and the commencement of routine.

Yes I will read that last line in the next couple of days and scoff at my foolishness!!

For those of you that I missed even saying 'hello' to at the NYE party, my apologies. If I had even suspected that it would all end so soon I would have made an attempt to get there earlier.

I hope you all pulled up okay and I look forward to catching up with everyone soon.

Happy new year and all that stuff :D

Well obviously I made it to Melbourne in one piece Tuesday, not surprisingly the flight was delayed in taking off which was a little annoying.

Stevo dropped me off at the airport and Bella came along as well so we just hung around and had coffee after I'd checked in which was nice.

As the flight attendants were doing their all important pre-take off safety BS and mentioning the oxygen masks dropping down in the event that oxygen is required I couldn't help thinking about Qantas having mistakenly filled up emergency tanks with nitrogen...

I didn't have too long to ponder that however as I had an adorable child behind me kicking my seat who's bogan mother then tried to have me evicted from my window seat so her children could look out. The gentleman sitting next to me and I were going to move for her but she was really rude and obnoxious about it so I didn't end up moving. The flight attendant was really nice and told me to just stay in my seat. I felt a bit guilty since it was apparently the kiddies first flight.

The temperature wasn't too bad yesterday; I was expecting to swelter! The first official day of holidays was great, any day that I can sleep in until 9:30a.m. is pretty good in my book :)

My sister has 'Singstar' on PS2 so I ended up spending several hours yesterday kicking her ass to such classic hits as 'Livin La Vida Loca', 'Complicated' and 'Hit Me Baby One More Time'... yes much fun was had and lots of laughs.

I went and did a little Christmas shopping with my Mum and sister yesterday (and a little Bec shopping too) but we only went to Eastlands in Ringwood so options were limited.

Apparently Alice is going to Hobart on Saturday so I'm thinking it would be a good idea to try to catch up with her while I'm here and perhaps I can convince her to incorporate a little shopping closer to the city with catching up and coffee.

Aside from Christmas day itself and a trip to Luna Park I don't really have anything else planned for while I'm over here, just spending time with my family and enjoying not being at work.

I get back into Hobart at night on the 29th of December so I'll be back in time for NYE celebrations. Already I'm not looking forward to returning to work on the 2nd of January but any break is better than no break. I haven't actually taken any annual leave for this holiday so I have two weeks of leave which I can use so I might take some time off around easter or something.

I'll update in the event of anything exciting happening, however I should get off my sister's computer before she gets annoyed!

I managed to get off work early today so I could go to an early screening of Stardust with Stevo. It was actually better than I expected and fairly true to the storyline, Robert De Niro was really quite well cast as the Captain - I just hope I didn't disturb too many people laughing!

I just found out today that James is coming down from Darwin next week. It's been about three or four years since we've caught up so I'm pretty excited - yay :)

In other news, I'm really sick of not having a washing machine I'll have to quit whining about it and actually get one.

Today I pre-ordered the fifth book in the Obernewtyn chronicles, that makes this a first for me. I didn't even pre-order the final book in The Dark Tower Series and I swear I waited just as long for that to be released.

It will be available on November 1st so that leaves me plenty of time to re-read the first four. Yes I know it's lame that I'm excited enough about it to post it here.

I'm going along to see Starlight at the Hobart Village next Tuesday - I'll post the session time later but if anyone else is interested, let me know. Also, if anyone wants to borrow the novel beforehand or afterwards I have it to loan.

Well I'm off to watch Pan's Labyrinth (finally)and then curl up in bed with a cup of tea and Obernewtyn - could be worse :)

Oh yes, I walked past what was Myer on the way home. I haven't actually been close enough to have a look since it burned down before now but it was really bizarre to see it in ruins and to actually be able to look right through and see the tops of the buildings on Collins Street.

Hobart Show!! [Sep. 20th, 2007|07:50 pm]
[mood |excitedexcited]

Yay 'tis the show next week - OMG it came up so suddenly! I haven't even saved or anything but nonetheless I plan to go and get my annual overdose of Zipper goodness and check out the animals and crafty stuff.

Okay I'm just going to put it out there even though it's possible I am the only person I know that actually wants to go spend a day at the show, putting up with annoying people, crying/screaming kiddies, rip-off sideshows and almost certain sunburn but... would anyone else be interested in coming along?

Post-post edit:

Even though the show is next month the rest of the above is still relevant!
